Russian crude steel output rises by 22 percent in H1

In the first half of 2010, Russia registered a 22 percent increase year on year in its crude steel production to 32.685 million metric tons.
 
According to the data issued by Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade, in H1 2010, Russia produced 24.2 million metric tons of pig iron - up 23.2 percent year on year, and 28.4 million mt of finished steel products - up 20.6 percent year on year. The above finished steel production figure includes 8.4 million metric tons of long products - up 10 percent, and 13.3 million metric tons of flat rolled products - up 30.2 percent, both compared to H1 2009.
 
According to preliminary data issued by Russian steel producers, in January-June 2010 Severstal Cherepovets increased its finished steel product output  by 26.5 percent, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) raised its finished steel product output by 23.3 percent, Mechel's Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant - by 20 percent, Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) - by 18.9 percent, while Evraz's Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK) registered a two percent drop in its finished steel product output, all compared to the same period last year.
