Russian crude steel output declines in 2008

In 2008, Russia registered a 5.1 percent decrease in its crude steel production year on year to 68.7 million metric tons.

During last year, Russia produced 48.4 million metric tons of pig iron - down 6.3 percent, 48.6 million metric tons of semi-finished products - down 5.3 percent, 32.8 million metric tons of long products - down two percent, and 23 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 9.2 percent, all compared to 2007. The above flat rolled production figure includes 7.6 million metric tons of cold rolled - down 6.3 percent, and 15.4 million metric tons of hot rolled - down 10.4 percent, both compared to the data of 2007.

All figures are in million metric tons.
