Russia is to reduce the special duty on imports of stainless steel tubes and pipes with outside diameter up to 426 mm inclusive from the current level of 28.1 percent to 9.9 percent.

Accordingly, the decision to recommend to the Russian government the amendment of the current special duty on stainless steel pipe imports has been taken by the government commission for protective measures in foreign trade and customs tariff regulation, following a meeting held on Tuesday, October 26.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, following an antidumping investigation, in November 2009 Russia imposed a 28 percent special duty on imports of 19 types of stainless steel tubes and pipes used in oil and gas pipelines and in work with hydrogen sulfide, for a period of three years. Earlier, the import duty on these pipes ranged from five to 20 percent depending on the type.

The main suppliers of stainless steel pipes to Russia are Ukraine, China, Brazil, Japan and EU countries (particularly Italy).
