The Russian Commission on Protective Measures in Foreign Trade and Customs Tariff Policy intends to recommend to the Russian government to cancel the import duty on metallurgical raw material and flat steel.

The decision to make this recommendation was taken on September 5, 2008 during the meeting of the working group of the governmental commission.

Currently, Russia has a five percent duty in place for both imports of several raw materials used in steel production and for flat steel products.
