According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in the first three month of 2007 Russia exported 7.27 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - up 4.8 percent, 1.3 million metric tons of pig iron - down 11 percent, 215,100 metric tons of ferroalloys - up 44 percent, 3.9 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 14 percent, 2.14 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 4.5 percent, 5.8 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - up 22.6 percent, and 628,000 metric tons of coke and semi-coke - up 62 percent, all compared to the first three month of 2006.
During the period in question, Russia increased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 72 percent and its steel pipe imports by 24 percent year on year to 1.255 million metric tons and 338,000 metric tons respectively.
