According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in the first seven months of 2007 Russia exported 16.147 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - down 7.5 percent, 3.06 million metric tons of pig iron - down 10.4 percent, 417,900 metric tons of ferroalloys - up 10.8 percent, 8.788 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 0.6 percent, 4.56 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 20.7 percent, 13.33 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - up nine percent, and 1.84 million metric tons of coke and semi-coke - up 2.52-fold, all compared to the first seven months of 2006.
During the period in question, Russia increased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 76 percent and its steel pipe imports by 41 percent year on year, to 3.695 million metric tons and 953,400 metric tons respectively.
