According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in January-February 2008 Russia exported 4.803 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - up four percent, 719,700 metric tons of pig iron - up 303 percent, 116,400 metric tons of ferroalloys - down 4.5 percent, 2.687 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 8.4 percent, 1.354 million metric tons of flat rolled products - up 2.7 percent, 3.577 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - down 11.7 percent, and 415,600 metric tons of coke and semi-coke - down 2.9 percent, all compared to corresponding period of 2007.
During the period in question, Russia decreased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 49 percent and its steel pipe imports by 44.8 percent year on year, to 640,300 metric tons and 186,400 metric tons respectively.
