Russia issues Jan 2010 import and export data

According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in the first month of 2010 Russia exported 2.271 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - up 14.8 percent, 1.196 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 11.5 percent, 776,700 metric tons of flat rolled products - up 31.55 percent, 1.326 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - up 78.8 percent, and 133,700 metric tons of coke and semi-coke - up 7.9 percent, all compared to January 2009. Meanwhile, in January 2010, Russia registered an 8.6 percent decrease year on year in its pig iron exports to 163,300 metric tons and a 5.4 percent drop year on year in its ferroalloy exports to 58,100 metric tons.

On the other hand, in January 2010, Russia increased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 128.3 percent to 241,100 metric tons, and raised its steel pipe imports by 57.5 percent to 46,000 metric tons, both compared to the same period last year.
