According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in 2008 Russia exported 26.833 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - down 2.23 percent, 5.271million metric tons of pig iron - down 8.44 percent, 751,600 metric tons of ferroalloys - down 3.14 percent, 15.532 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 6.34 percent, 7.007 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 13.2 percent, 22.523 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - down 11.7 percent, and 3.002 million metric tons of coke and semi-coke - down 4.7 percent, all compared to 2007.
During the period in question, Russia decreased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 23 percent and its steel pipe imports by 36.5 percent year on year, to 4.639 million metric tons and 948,800 metric tons respectively.
