Russian coal exporters and traders have announced that Russia will stop coal exports via Ukrainian ports starting from November for an as-yet-undetermined period due to the current shortage of railways cars for coal transportation from Russia to Ukraine.

Russia exports about six million metric tons of coal annually via Ukrainian ports.

Coal exported via the Ukrainian ports is mostly supplied to the Mediterranean countries, in particularly to Turkey.

The search for alternative export paths may affect coal freight rates and other transportation charges.
