Rig count slides in US and Canada

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending April 5, the US rig count fell by 10 to 1,738, following a two-rig increase a week ago. During the week, the oil rig count rose by three to 1,357 while the gas-directed rig count was down by 14 to 375 rigs.

Meanwhile, Canada's rig count fell by 40 to 206 rigs, down 19 from the 187 active drilling rigs in the same week a year ago.
