The rig count was still down 200 rigs from the same week a year ago when active drilling rigs totaled 1,971. The oil rig count increased by seven to 1,413 while the gas rig count was down by one to 353.

In Canada, the rig count increased by 24 to 176, the fourth consecutive weekly increase, but still down 72 from the same week a year ago.
