After a week's delay, RG Steel sold both its Sparrows Point, Maryland and Warren, Ohio flat rolled steel plants on Tuesday. Sparrows Point was sold to Hilco Industrial, a liquidator, for $72 million.
Meanwhile, Warren was sold to holding company C.J. Betters Enterprises for about $17 million cash, which, according to local news reports, said it would maintain the mill in working condition for some time until a possible operator is found.
Last week, RG's Mingo Junction, Ohio and assets at the Wheeling, West Virginia mill were sold to various companies including Esmark and Nucor. The money from the sales is expected to help repay some of RG Steel's creditors.
The sales won't be officially approved until August 15, when a hearing at the US bankruptcy court in Wilmington, Delaware is scheduled.
