Atlanta-based Recleim LLC entered into an asset purchase agreement on August 14 with Appliance Recycling Centers of America Inc (ARCA) Advanced Processing (AAP) for the purchase of an appliance recycling facility located in Pennsylvania. The acquisition expands Recleim’s reach to the East coast. The acquisition will allow Recleim to recycle via a ‘de-manufacturing’ process. The process is distinct from recycling as it involves recovering more materials from appliances, HVAC systems and vending machines, which is more environmentally friendly.
The Philadelphia plant is one of only a handful of plants in the country that can capture and process ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases that are found in the foam lining of expired appliances. Recleim currently operates de-manufacturing facilities in Graniteville, South Carolina and opening a new facility in Lima, Ohio. Recleim recently also purchased Nova Services’ assets in Maryland.
Recleim, founded in 2012, provides collection, transportation, de-manufacturing and resource recovery services for end-of-life appliances, HVAC units and vending machines for a variety of clients including utilities, retailers and manufacturers. ARCA has sold its 50 percent joint-venture ownership interest in the AAP LLC Company.
