In South Korea, domestic rebar producers recorded a strong performance both in production and sales in the January-April period of the current year, according to a survey carried out by Korea Metal Journal.
In the first four months this year, South Korean rebar producers' aggregate output and sales of rebar totaled 2,933,200 metric tons and 2,814,000 metric tons respectively, up 7.5 percent and 10.7 percent from the same period last year. They sold 2,694,000 metric tons of rebars in their domestic market, up 12.9 percent year on year, though their overseas sales declined by 23.7 percent year on year to 120,000 metric tons.
In April alone, South Korean rebar mills produced 766,100 metric tons of rebar, up 10.4 percent year on year, while their sales surged by 13.6 percent to 773,000 metric tons compared with 680,600 metric tons a year earlier. In April, they sold 753,000 metric tons in their domestic market and 20,000 metric tons overseas, respectively increasing by 13.9 percent and 3.6 percent year on year.
