Real estate investments in China up 8.5 percent in Q1

In the January-March period of the current year, total real estate investments in China amounted to RMB 1.6651 trillion ($0.269 trillion), up 8.5 percent year on year, with this growth rate down 1.9 percentage points compared to the year-on-year increase rate recorded in the January-February period this year, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on April 15.

Investments in residential dwellings in China in the January-March period of the current year amounted to RMB 1.1156 trillion ($0.18 trillion), up 5.9 percent year on year, accounting for 67.0 percent of total real estate investments in the country during the given period.

In the period in question, new commercial real estate sold in China covered a total area of 182.54 million m2, down 9.2 percent on year-on-year basis. The total area covered by new residential buildings sold in China in the given period was down 9.8 percent, the total area covered by new office buildings sold decreased by 23.3 percent, while the total area of new commercial business space sold during the given period was up 5.4 percent, all year on year.
