Finnish steelmaker Rautaruukki will close its sinter plant at the Raahe Works in Finland in 2011. The company will switch over to sole use of iron ore pellets as raw material in the iron-making process. Also, Rautaruukki has signed a long-term pellet supply contract with LKAB of Sweden.

The switch to 100 percent iron ore pellet use will make the Raahe Works sinter plant redundant. The iron-making process at the facility currently uses a million mt of iron ore pellets and 2.3 million mt of iron ore concentrate each year.

Rautaruukki is a supplier of metal-based component systems and integrated systems for the construction and mechanical engineering industries.
