Productivity in Brazil’s civil construction low compared to US, other nations

Productivity in the Brazilian civil construction segment is lower when compared to a number of countries, according to a joint study by a local union and a major research institution, FGV.

According to the findings of a study requested by the Sao Paulo civil construction union, SindusconSP, productivity in the Brazilian civil construction segment reached 20.3 percent of the productivity of the same sector in the US in 2013.

China is the only country to have a worse productivity than Brazil when compared to the US in 2013. Productivity in Mexico reached 25.4 percent the US productivity in 2013, while in Russia, Portugal, India, Sweden and the UK those percentages reached 26.2, 36.8, 27.9, 87.2 and 97.5 percent, respectively.

According to SindusconSP, productivity in the nation’s civil construction segment continues growing in the same pace as seen in 2013, China will surpass Brazil by 2019.
