Hong Kong-based conglomerate CITIC Pacific has announced that iron ore concentrate production has started at its Sino iron ore project in Western Australia, with the first shipment expected in early 2013.
According to CITIC's statement, installation of the project's second production line is in its final stage, and the commissioning is targeted to start in May 2013. Installation of production lines three to six will begin soon, and their commissioning is targeted for 2014.
China's largest overseas mining investment has suffered from cost overruns and delays. The project was originally expected to start production at the end of August.
