Prices of tinplate in Philippines increase cost of canned goods

Philippines Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said today that rising tinplate prices caused canned product producers in the country to increase prices of their products by 4-5% in recent times. Recent market reports indicate that price of imported tinplates from the US increased from $6.48 per kg to $9.45 kg. The increase in the price of tinplate led to an increase in the cost of tin production in Philippines. DTI stated that provided that the government extends tariff protection of National Steel Corporation (NSC), apart from the prices of tinplates, prices of canned goods are likely to increase remarkably.
