South Korean steelmaker POSCO plans to repair its steel plate mills in the Pohang Works and the Gwangyang Works of the company in third quarter of this year.

The Gwangyang Works is scheduled to repair its steel plate mill for four days from August 26 to 29. It is estimated that about 25,000 mt of steel plates will not be produced during the planned facility repair works of the mill.

The Pohang Works will conduct facility repair works of its No. 1 steel plate mill thereafter for nine days from September 19 to 27. The daily output of steel plates from the mill is about 2,000 tons and so, the production reduction of steel plates at the Pohang Works during the facility repair works will not be so much.

POSCO estimates the facility repair works of its two steel plate mills in the third quarter of the year will affect production of about 43,000 of steel plates in total, but it is expected that the production cut will not affect the supply of steel plates much in the domestic market, because major local shipbuilders also plan to repair their shipyards for more than 10 days in the July-September quarter of the year.
