POSCO plans port despite India’s opposition

According to local press in India, South Korean steelmaker Pohang Steel Company (POSCO) announced that it would construct a separate port at Jatadhari near Paradip in Orissa, India to handle its cargo from the steel plant to be constructed. The Indian government is against POSCO's idea to build the port claiming that it could lead to soil erosion and also adversely affect the turtle nests on the beach. The government proposes the company to use Paradip Port. However POSCO insists on building a new port, claiming that Paradip Port already works over capacity and a separate port is required for the 12 million capacity mt steel plant they are to build.
