According to local media reports, the Ministry of Transportation of Canada announced on Tuesday that it will invest C$55 million into the deep-water dock project at the Port of Sept-Îles. The expansion project will allow the port to handle the super vessels--300,000 tons or more of iron ore. The investment by the Canadian government will cover about 25 percent of the total cost of the project-which is believed to have a huge impact on employment, creating about 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and about 150 to 200 permanent jobs with the port. The expansion will also allow the port to streamline its process by allowing the iron ore to be unloaded from a stockpile onto a conveyor belt, which will dump the iron ore into a small vessel and it is that vessel that will loaded the super vessels that will be docked in Sept-Îles Bay where the water is deeper.
