The A$3.5 billion multi-user iron ore railway project in Pilbara, Western Australia, involving QR National, Atlas Iron and Brockman Mining, has been postponed by up to six months amid rising costs, volatile iron ore prices, and uncertainty about the amount of iron ore the companies will be able to deliver on the line, according to media reports.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, Atlas Iron Limited and major domestic coal haulage firm QR National had reached an agreement to conduct a feasibility study regarding the iron ore railway project. The study was expected be completed by the end of this calendar year, with construction to be finished as early as 2015.
