Pig iron output falls in CIS

Russia's pig iron output fell 2.6 percent year on year to 48.4 million metric tons in 2005, according to recent market reports. It is reported that pig iron production fell 12.4 percent at Novolipetsk Steel, 12 percent at Novokuznetsk Iron and Steel Works, 0.8 percent at Tulachermet and 0.8 percent at Urals Steel. Pig iron production rose 0.7 percent at Severstal, 3.3 percent at Nizhny Tagil Iron & Steel Works, 16 percent at Chusovoi Metallurgical Plant and 9.4 percent at Kosaya Gora Metallurgical Plant. Pig iron production also fell 0.7 percent year on year to 30.7 million metric tons in Ukraine during 2005. Pig iron production fell 5.2 percent at Dzerzhinsky Steel Mill and 2.8 percent at Mittal Steel Kryviy (formely Kryvorizhstal). On the other hand, production rose 1.8 percent at Illych Steel Works, 3.2 percent at Azovstal, 5.6 percent at Zaporizhstal and 30.5 percent at Petrovsky.
