Pig iron output falls in CIS

Russia's pig iron production fell 3.1 percent year on year to 43.95 million tons in the first eleven months of 2005. Pig iron production fell 1 percent at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK), 12.8 percent at Novolipetsk Steel, 0.9 percent at Tulachement, 12 percent at Novokuznetsk Iron & Steel Works, 2.1 percent at West Siberian Iron & Steel Works and 0.5 percent at Urals Steel. However, Severstal increased pig iron output 0.4 percent, Nizhny Tagil Iron & Steel Works 3.9 percent, Chusovoi Metallurgical Plant 17.8 percent and Kosaya Gora Metallurgical Plant 6.2 percent. Meanwhile, Ukraine's pig iron production dropped 1.5 percent year on year to 27.97 million tons during the same period. Pig iron production fell 7.3 percent at Dzerhinsky Steel Mill and 3.7 percent at Kryvorizhstal. On the other hand, output rose 0.4 percent at Illych Metallurgical Combine, 3.5 percent at Azovstal, 5.7 percent at Zaporizhstal and 28.1 percent at Petrovsky Metallurgical Plant.
