Paul Wurth to upgrade JSW Steel’s BF No. 3 at Vijayanagar Works

Luxembourg-based plantmaker Paul Wurth has announced that it will upgrade Indian steelmaker JSW Steel’s blast furnace No.3 (BF3) in Toranagallu, Karnataka state, India, which is the biggest blast furnace at the company’s Vijayanagar Works. The scope of the contract includes engineering of the upgrade of the entire blast furnace and all selected auxiliary plant units, as well as procurement, supply and technical services.

According to Paul Wurth, the modernized blast furnace No. 3 will have an inner volume of approximately 5,300 m3, rising by 32 percent from the present working volume of 4,019 m3, which will result in an average daily crude steel production of 12,676 mt and a total yearly production of about 4.5 million mt.
