Luxembourg-based plantmaker Paul Wurth announced that it will supply coal grinding, drying and injection plants for the application of pulverized coal injection (PCI) technology in blast furnaces No. 4 and No. 6 of the Czech long steel producer Třinecké železárny.

The two 8.2 meter high furnaces to which the technology will be applied make up the steelmaker's entire iron making capacity which is currently over two million mt per year.

The installation of the PCI plant, considered to be the most important investment of Třinecké železárny is expected to reduce the blast furnace operating costs and eliminate the need for further coke imports.

The facilities are scheduled to be commissioned for November-December 2013.
