Pakistan extends the deadline for import of Indian galvanized sheets
Pakistani Ministry of Commerce yesterday extended the last day for the import of corrugated galvanized iron sheets from India till September 30, 2006. The imported product will be used in the reconstruction of earthquake-affected areas. The Ministry of Commerce previously determined April 30, 2006 as the deadline for the import of corrugated galvanized iron sheets to be used in the reconstruction of earthquake affected areas. The decision to extent the deadline for the import of such products from India has been taken on the recommendation of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), the Ministry of Commerce sources reported. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the Pakistani government, in December 2005, abolished the ban on mild steel imported from India in an effort to meet rising demand from the construction sector following the October 8th earthquake.
