Output of 51 major shipbuilding firms in China down 12.6% in Jan-Apr

In the January-April period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output of 51 major shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to 10.08 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 12.6 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, new ship orders of the 51 major shipbuilding enterprises amounted to 13.30 million dwt, increasing by 141 percent year on year. As of the end of April, ship orders on the books of the shipbuilding enterprises totaled 119.16 million dwt, down 13.7 percent year on year.

In the January-April period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders of the 51 major shipbuilding enterprises totaled 9.48 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 8.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, new ship export orders of the shipbuilding enterprises in the period in question amounted to 12.78 million dwt, increasing by 172 percent year on year. As of the end of April, ship export orders on the books of the 51 major shipbuilding enterprises totaled 115.82 million dwt, down 11.6 percent year on year.
