On February 3,
Finland-based mining and metallurgical technologies provider Outotec announced that it has signed a contract for the delivery of sintering technology for Indian steelmaker JSW Steel Ltd's (JSW) new
iron ore sinter plant to be built in Toranagallu, Karnataka,
India. The contract includes technology fee and the supply of proprietary equipment.
Meanwhile, the new plant is expected to produce annually around 2.3 million mt of iron sinter which will be used as feed for blast furnaces in steel production. Outotec's delivery is a part of JSW's expansion to take its annual sinter capacity to 10 million mt. The commissioning of the plant is scheduled for 2011.
Outotec CEO Pertti Korhonen commented, "This is already JSW's fourth sinter plant designed with Outotec's technology in the past five years. The previous plant delivered by Outotec and commissioned this year will be
India's largest sinter plant. Outotec has designed eleven sinter plants in
India since 2003 confirming the company's position as the leading supplier of agglomeration technology in the iron and steel industry."
