Finland-based mining and metallurgical technologies provider Outotec has announced the receipt of a €119 million order from South Africa-based Kalagadi Manganese Pty Ltd for the design and delivery of a new manganese sinter plant to be built in Hotazel in the country's Northern Cape Province.

Accordingly, the new plant will produce 2.4 million mt of sinter annually. Manganese ore sinter is used as raw material for the production of high carbon ferromanganese. The plant commissioning is scheduled for March 2012.

"Kalagadi's new plant will be one of the world's largest manganese sinter plants," Outotec CEO Pertti Korhonen said.

Kalagadi Manganese is 50-percent owned by the world's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal, while Kalahari Resources owns 40 percent of the company and IDC the remaining 10 percent.
