Outokumpu to supply special stainless steel for dam in Finland

Finland-based stainless steel producer Outokumpu announced on June 7 that it will deliver special stainless steel for the rebuilding of the dam in Tammerkoski rapids in Tampere, Finland. According to the company, all the main structural parts of the sluice and flood gates will be fabricated from Outokumpu's lean duplex LDX 2101® stainless steel.
 
The strength of the Duplex LDX 2101® enables thinner and lighter structures, which makes it easier to operate the gates. The material also ensures uninterrupted service life for two centuries.
 
The Tammerkoski rapids flow runs four hydroelectric power plants. In the reconstruction project, the dam walls will be renovated, and the dam structures that date back to the early 1900s will be replaced.
