Finnish stainless steel producer Outokumpu has announced that it has supplied stainless steel for a project aiming at evoking the Finnish national epic Kalevala on Seurasaari Island in Helsinki, Finland.

The project, which covers a small pavilion that will function as a meeting place made of stainless steel, wood and glass, is the culmination of an architectural and academic program at the Catholic University in Washington, DC.

Stainless steel forms the roof of the building and the polished surface of the project. The products supplied by Outokumpu were prefabricated and handcrafted on site by Turun Pläkkipelti Oy.

The opening ceremony of the Kalevala project has taken place on August 26, 2010. The installation will remain in place through August 2013.
