The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) said on September 22 that it is opposing the South Korean government's scheme to further increases charges for electric power for industrial use.

The FKI said electricity charges have been lifted 11 times since 2000 and charges on electric power for industrial use have increased by as much as 51.5 percent, while the average increase rate for electric power in all sectors during the same period was 26.6 percent. The FKI claimed that the electric charges for industrial use in South Korea are higher than those in advanced countries where charges for electric power for industrial use have been set at lower levels than the rates for household use in order to sharpen their international competitive edge
