Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has stated that its Casting-Rolling Complex (CRC) has modernized its combined cutter slitter unit for rolled steel.

The project, which cost around RUB 200 million ($3.2 million), is expected to enhance the factory's strip-making capacity in order to satisfy the needs of the pipe workshops of OMK subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works (VSW). In particular, the products are intended for VSW's second and third electric weld pipe shops. A wide-scale overhaul program is drawing to a close at the workshops; the program will enlarge the range of produced pipes and will increase the factory's production capacity.

"The upgraded combined cutter slitter can produce strips and rolled sheet 800-1,800 mm wide and up to 12,800 mm long. The unit will reach the planned capacity in the first quarter of 2015. By modernizing the equipment, we have ensured that CRC's operation meets the demand that VSW's developing pipe workshops have - a demand for high-quality rolled metal to fulfill the orders of the largest oil and gas companies," stated CRC's director, Oleg Fedotov.
