The Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced that during the next six months, from April to September 2009, it will carry out a system testing of all production performances of its new foundry and rolling facility, which is located in the Vyksa district of Russia's Nijniy Novgorod region.
The main task of the system testing is to produce 530,000 mt of hot rolled steel during the next two quarters. "We have to prove our ability to produce and to deliver the amount and quality of product which is necessary to make a profit," OMK foundry and rolling facility executive director Konstantin Pityul stated.
OMK's foundry and rolling facility was commissioned on October 3, 2008. Currently, the facility is increasing capacities and production range and is completing the development of new steel grades for small and medium diameter pipes which will be produced at OMK's Vyksa Steel Works and Almetyevsk Pipe Plant. So far OMK's foundry and rolling facility has mastered the production of anticorrosive, low carbon to high carbon steel grades for pipes, to be used in severe climatic conditions.
In 2009 OMK's new facility is scheduled to produce one million mt of rolled steel products.
