Olympic stadium project ahead of schedule
According to the latest announcement from the 2008 Beijing Olympics Committee, Beijing's National Olympic Stadium will be completed well before the deadline.
Construction resumed in January after having ground to a halt in July 2004 due to high raw material costs. The design of the project was modified to reduce the steel
consumption by 17'000 tons. The stadium will now use 42'000 tons of steel and cost RMB 2.3 billion ($278 million).
The stadium is expected to open its doors in summer 2007.
