Nova Tube and Steel LLC is seeking to build a pipe and tube manufacturing facility in the US, according to news reports this week. Presently, the company has eight locations in Canada (six in Quebec and two in Ontario), and one facility in Saltillo, Mexico.

According to news reports, one possible contender city is Cleveland, Ohio due to its central Midwest location, benefits from the density of other steel mills, and access to the Great Lakes and Cuyahoga River. Other cities in the Midwest and specifically Ohio are under consideration.

The Cleveland City Council will address legislation in September to provide a 10-year, 60 percent tax abatement to develop the tube mill on land owned by a public-private development corporation. The land formerly housed a steel mill and Nova Steel has signed a nonbinding purchase agreement for at least 30 acres at the site.
