Norfolk Southern sees record coal and coke volumes
Norfolk Southern Corporation (NS) has set a new record in their second quarter 2005 for total coal, coke, and iron ore volume at 47.3 million tons. NS has set new volume records in two of the last three financial quarters. These record-setting volumes are the result of coal moving to utilities, coal shipments to a new coke plant and strong first-half domestic metallurgical coal markets. NS is one of the nation's premier transportation companies. The company operates the most extensive intermodal network in the East and is North America's largest rail carrier of automotive parts and finished vehicles.Norfolk Southern sees record coal and coke volumes
