No slowdown in Chinese railway construction

Construction of new railway lines in China in the 12th five-year plan period (2011-15) has increased significantly compared with the 11th five-year plan period, according to the Chinese Ministry of Railways.

According to the ministry, railway development objectives in the 12th five-year plan period are as follows:

1.30,000 kilometers of new railway lines are to be built
2.The total railway line mileage in operation will increase from the current 91,000 km to about 120,000 km by the end of the twelfth five-year. Of the latter figure, 45,000 km will consist of railways for express trains, and 50,000 km will be located in the western region of the country.

Accordingly, RMB 2.8 trillion will be invested in railway construction in China in 2011-15, up 41.4 percent from the 2006-10 period.
