NMDC appoints Mecon as adviser for proposed steel mill in Jharkhand

Indian iron ore miner NMDC Limited has appointed engineering and consulting company Mecon Limited as technical adviser for its proposed greenfield steel mill in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand in a joint venture with the state government, an official with the Jharkhand government said on Thursday, November 26.
 
The options for the proposed NMDC-Jharkhand government joint venture are either two units of 3 million mt per year each or four units of 2 million mt per year each to be decided by Mecon, the official added.
 
According to the official, a separate joint venture will be formed between NMDC and the Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation which will be allotted iron ore reserves and will have an exclusive raw material supply agreement with the proposed steel mill.
 
The Jharkhand government has offered three sites for the steel mill which will be assessed by the technical and engineering consultants as well, the official added.
