Russian steelmaker NLMK Group has signed a long-term contract with Vyksa Steel Works (VMZ), part of Russian metallurgical group United Metallurgical Company (OMK), for the supply of continuously cast slabs. These slabs will be rolled into plates at the VMZ Mill-5000 (MKS-5000). The plates will then be further applied in the production of large-diameter pipes, which will be used to meet orders from Russian gas monopoly Gazprom for the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta, Ukhta-Torzhok, and  Yuzhny Potok (Southern Stream) projects. The orders placed by United Metallurgical Company (OMK) will require NLMK to produce slabs with superior internal steel structure standards, and in dimensions that have not been previously produced by Russian companies, i.e., 355 mm thick, 2,200 mm wide.
