Russian steelmaker NLMK has announced that it has improved environmental performance at its Russia-based assets in the first half of the current year against a backdrop of increased production.
Steel output in the first half of the current year increased by three percent year on year while the environmental impact decreased. Particularly, specific air emissions at Russian production facilities decreased by five percent and water consumption fell by 7.2 percent, both year on year.
“Environmental investment at NLMK Group’s Russian sites since the beginning of the year has exceeded RUB 1 billion ($15.14 million). We have completed six new environmental projects and 13 more are underway. We expect these projects to allow us to supply our clients with products that are manufactured with a minimum impact on the environment.” said Yuri Larin, NLMK vice president, technology development and operational efficiency.
