NLMK launches new converter

Russian steelmaker NLMK's new 300 mt converter has been put into operation at the company's main production site in Lipetsk. Alongside other technical upgrade activities, the launch of the new converter will allow for a 36 percent increase in steelmaking capacity at the Lipetsk site, up to 12.4 million mt per year. NLMK has already announced the successful commencement of startup activities at its new blast furnace No. 7 with a capacity of 3.4 million mt per year at its Lipetsk site.

Investments in NLMK's basic oxygen furnace (BOF) projects have totaled about Ruble 14.8 billion ($470 million) including VAT.
