Japanese automaker Nissan announced it expects to hire an additional 600 workers at its manufacturing plant in the city of Resende, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, as it implements a second shift to expand the production of its Nissan Kicks model in Brazil.
According to the automaker, the proposed second shift at its Resende industrial complex aims to meet the growing demand for the model, which commenced production at the plant in April this year.
The workforce addition is part of the company’s plan to invest BRL 750 million ($225.2 million) at its Resende industrial complex. The company expects to expand auto sales out of its Resende plant, at the same time it exports cars to other Latin American countries. Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay were some of the recent export destinations.
Nissan expects to start exporting its Nissan Kicks model to Latin America in the company’s current fiscal year. As Nissan finishes hiring additional employees, it should have about 2,500 workers at its Resende complex.
The plant was inaugurated three years ago with initial investments of BRL 2.6 billion ($780.7 million). Currently, it produces the Nissan Kicks, March and Versa models.
