Japan-based automobile producer Nissan has announced that it has opened its second
production plant in
Thailand, having invested THB 3.7 billion ($114.2 million) in the plant, while creating 2,000 jobs. The new plant will be a
production hub for the NP300 Navara, Nissan's new generation pickup truck, with full
production capacity expected to reach 150,000 units per year.
The plant will increase the company's
production capacity in
Thailand to 370,000 units per year. It produced its first NP300 Navara pickup on July 1 and started sales on July 3.
Fumiaki Matsumoto, Nissan's executive vice president, emphasized that
Thailand is an integral part of Nissan's growth plan in Asia, adding that the opening of the second plant in the country signifies the company's optimism for
Thailand, as a growing
automotive market.
Nissan has also invested THB 162 million ($5 million) in the new plant's zero discharge program, and will recycle all industrial wastewater through the reverse osmosis (RO) process.
