According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in February this year new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey amounted to 52,463 units, decreasing by 58.3 percent month on month and down 22 percent year on year, after a month-on-month increase of 74.4 percent in January.
New passenger car registrations in February totaled 28,359 units, decreasing by 62.5 percent as compared to the previous month and down 19.6 percent year on year. Passenger cars accounted for 54.1 percent of total registrations. Small truck registrations in February, on the other hand, decreased by 66.2 percent month on month and were down 32.5 percent year on year, amounting to 10,361 units. Small truck registrations constituted 19.7 percent of total registrations.
In the January-February period of 2012, new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey amounted to 178,414 units, with a 20.6 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2011.
