New scrap steel plant to be commissioned in Ethiopia

A new scrap steel plant in Bishoftu, Ethiopia will reportedly be commissioned in October with an investment of Birr 29.7 million ($3.4 million). The owner of the scrap steel plant is Abyssinia Integrated Steel, a joint venture company built in October 2001. The newly established scrap steel plant will supply scrap metal to certain industries, including construction. Abyssinia Integrated Steel officials stated that they decided to build the plant as scrap is a crucial raw material in steel making. Moreover, the plant is the third scrap steel plant in the country.
