A senior official with the Vitebsk Region Administration in Belarus has stated that a €280 million investment project is planned for the Miory district in Vitebsk for the contruction of a new metallurgical plant for production of tinned sheet iron.

At present, Belarus does not produce tinned sheet iron. Construction is due to start in the current year, with the project expected to be completed by 2018. The new metallurgical project is expected to produce 200,000 mt of sheet iron per year. With the new plant up and running, Belarus will able to reduce its tinned sheet iron imports by 30 percent, saving $290 million a year. The investment project will create 50 new jobs.

The official did not comment about the source of the investment.
